On August 25, 2020, house representatives Nydia Velazquez and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez introduced the Puerto Rico Self Determination Act.

Philly Boricuas recognizes that this bill is a step towards the future of Puerto Rico. Puerto Ricans, not the U.S. government must define and decide the future of our colonial status. A Constitutional Assembly allows us to take matters into our own hands.  Now that this bill is on the table it is our job as Boricuas in the diaspora to push our elected officials to vote in support of the bill.

On December 10, 2020, Philadelphia City Councilmember Maria Quiñonez Sanchez introduced Resolution 200723. If approved it will set a precedent for other cities and states across the nation that The City Council of Philadelphia not only supports AOC and Velazquez' bill but CALLS upon the United States Congress, including the Pennsylvania delegation, to support the passage of H.R. 8113.

If you support this city council resolution and want to see our city have a formal stance on the issue you can submit a written testimony to city council by emailing Jacklyn.synnamon@phila.gov
